| Outreach
to the Hispanic Community was a big focus of our event in Bay Point
on this beautiful Saturday. A table, complete banners and a TV showing
the DVD, was set up at the Bay Point Library Book Sale. An energetic
and very committed HCA – Contra Costa member sent this report.
Most of the
people I met were Hispanic. My Spanish is broken at best. I had
a large box of new stuffed animals that I often give away to children
at certain community events. I found an Hispanic women who understood
English. I explained that I needed help communicating about Universal
Health Care in Spanish. I showed her my flyer and that I could give
anyone a stuffed animal for a completed petition page. She was motivated
herself to help by the merits of the issue and my generous offer.
She made the rounds, explaining the campaign and was able to collect
most of the 34 petition names that day. I am sure her kids will
enjoy the stuffed animals.
Meanwhile,
I did help pass out the Spanish flyer and played Santa Claus with
the kids by helping give away free books from our Library sale.
Additionally, my roommates were also motivated by the issue and
the DVD and are collecting names on petitions from friends &
family and one is making a great effort at her Kidney Dialysis Unit.
We are over 50 petition signers total for this day and plan to continue
our efforts beyond today to make our community aware of the Universal
Health Care campaign.
If you live
in the bay Point area, join in this growing effort!
