Tuesday evening, December
5th, residents of San Carlos were offered a free public showing
of the short documentary "The Health Care Solution: California
OneCare" at the San Carlos Public Library Community Room. The
showing was scheduled at the same time as the annual holiday tree-lighting
in City Hall Park so that people who planned to attend those festivities
could stop by the Library before (or after) for refreshments, and
to find out how California can create a health care system that
works for everyone: the California Health Insurance Reliability
Act.
A special feature of this event was the involvement of a dozen
local high school seniors who were recruited to help publicize
it by passing out flyers and inviting people to come to the Library
to see the documentary. Previously, the students’ Government
Studies teacher had shown "The Health Care Solution: California
OneCare” in class and had held a discussion of the issues
raised by the documentary.
The event was co-sponsored and produced by Health Care for All
- California (San Francisco/Mid-Peninsula Chapter) and the League
of Women Voters of North and Central San Mateo County.
