As Tiburon is a major departure point for workers commuting to San Francisco, Tiburon OneCareNOW Day took place at the ferry landing. Nearly all the morning commuters went on their way with a flyer in hand; we found them highly receptive, presumably because they were about to have a calm half hour's reading time.

We covered the four morning commuter ferries. At 6 AM, it was too dark for photos, but here -- as the clock shows -- at 6:49 AM, a just-in-time man heads down the plank as Health Care for All-Marin co-director Greg Brockbank eyes a few more last-minuters sprinting towards the ferry.

Pat Tunnard has joined us by this time, fortunately, as at least a hundred people board the 7:50 ferry. People were coming in such waves that it took three people to fill their (usually outstretched) hands.

In between ferries, we have plenty of time to drop by the bus stop and pass out flyers to Golden Gate bus riders. Then we repair to a delightful coffee shop and await the next ferry.

Ellen Karel has joined the team intercepting the 8:45 ferry riders. The clock here shows 8:45, so the last passengers are now boarding. And now it is off to work for our team, regretful that we too don't have someplace to ride the ferry to ourselves. A recent check of the OneCareNOW site showed that the number of Tiburon/Belvedere petition-signers rose 25% after OneCareNOW Day, so it was in all ways a satisfying event. |
