California School Employees Association provided an education rally in Downey on Saturday, June 23rd, on the theme ‘Concerned About Health Care?’ Staff turned out in full force, with about 30 other interested school employees.
After the training, everyone went to a swap meet at Warren High School where several more employees and friends had acquired a space for a booth. Posters and sign up materials for Michael Moore’s new film SiCKO were available. Over 50 signatures were gathered on ONECARENOW petitions to support change to the health care system we now have.
Nearly every person that stopped by the booth had a health story to tell, from the young lady who had had a brain tumor and could neither find a job (since she might not be reliable due to an occasional headache) nor get health insurance (due to her previous health problem), to families who just could not afford the high health insurance premiums.
