Long Beach
The Long Beach One Care Event: The 360th City of the 365-City Campaign A colorful and enjoyable rally was held at the busiest intersection of downtown Long Beach from 11:00 to l:00 p.m. It definitely caught the attention of hundreds and hundreds of people that seemed to appreciate our presence and understood what we were up to. I don't know how we could have picked a better intersection. And being a work day, we got the working crowd--even a city employee signing our petition because she sees her health benefits dwindling.
We had two colorful tables with balloons at the two busy corners, with folks across the busy intersection where we also had balloons tied to the polls. We had a march down two blocks where the busy lunchtime crowd dined outside and folks chanted along the way. We were accompanied by the press who spent about an hour with us taking pictures and getting information. We were represented by the National Council of Jewish Women, ABC Federation of Teachers, many
members of the Gray Panthers of Long Beach, clinical workers from the
Children's Clinic of Long Beach, representatives from CSEA, CARA,
Unitarian Church of Long Beach, and, of course, many Health Care for
All South Bay/Long Beach members, and PCK's clinic, along with
supporters. Advocates promote state health care reform bill (Press Telegraph) 8/7/07
