Oxnard
On Saturday, September 16, while a OneCareNow 365 event was taking place across Ventura County in Fillmore, the Oxnard OneCareNow Community Action Team (CAT) held its first event. Though Oxnard's 365 Event will be held deep into 2007, the CAT seized an opportunity to hold an event at St. Paul's Methodist Church. Doug Bungert of the CAT had been invited to participate as a speaker in a symposium on health care sponsored by VC CLUE, the Ventura County Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice. Besides Doug, who represented Health Care For All, the speakers included two ministers, Congresswoman Lois Capps and an anti-tobacco advocate. The goal of the CAT was to expose the seventy or more attendees to the
OneCareNow message and to forge alliances with the Faith Community. Success!
Many signed petitions and took flyers. The CAT gave out three DVDs of
the film "The Health Care Solution: California OneCare". Doug
met a Newbury Park minister who, in a past life, was a pharmaceutical
rep. This
