Natural Bad Breath Remedies That Can Truly Help

remedies for bad breathEveryone knows how embarrassing it can be to have bad breath. There are few things that can make you feel self conscious faster. The gross feeling alone might be even worse, especially when your mouth is dry. No matter how much is done to prevent it and take care of your teeth, bad breath finds everyone at some point or another.

There are also so many causes that it might feel difficult to determine what you need to do to treat it. Fortunately, you don’t have to spend a fortune on the likes of dentist trips or special treatments.

There are plenty of natural bad breath remedies that you can employ to restore your freshness as needed.

The most common cause of bad breath is when you have a lot of bacteria built up near the back of your tongue or even in between your teeth. Yes, it seems gross, but it can happen even to people that brush regularly. Certain areas of the mouth are hard to reach, and a lot of people tend to rush through their oral hygiene routines on autopilot. You have to be mindful when you brush, and make sure to be as thorough as possible. As much as people hate it, you should also be sure to floss and use mouthwash as well. Tongue scraping is another oft forgotten step that’s crucial for staving off bad breath throughout the day.

Of course, having a good tooth brushing routine is about as basic as it gets. To go a bit beyond the obvious, you should also make sure to drink as much water as possible. Not only is neutral enough not to stain, it also helps loosen food that might get stuck otherwise. A lot of the chemicals and other ingredients in common beverage alternatives such as soda or coffee leave stains on the teeth and can easily lead to bad breath. Consider following up any beverage or meal you have with some water, and swish it around a bit to make sure your mouth is properly rinsed.

Now, it’s time to get a bit more crafty. You can always keep the likes of gum or breath mints handy, but a lot of time those are only working to mask the smell rather than eliminating the cause. To truly eliminate your bad breath outside of an all out brushing routine, you’ll need to employ some good old fashioned home remedies.

The first thing you should keep handy is some cinnamon powder. There’s already so many types of gum are cinnamon scented and flavored; pure cinnamon is rich with the cinnamic aldehyde essential oil. This is incredibly effective at killing bacteria. By boiling a teaspoon or so of cinnamon powder in a cup of water, you’ll be left with a powerful breath freshening mouth rinse that you can easily conjure up once or twice a day as needed. Not only will it work to improve how good your breath smells, it’s going to get rid of a lot of the bacteria that’s causing the problem in the first place.

Another good trick to keep in your back pocket is to chew some cloves. It sounds odd, but cloves also have strong antibacterial attributes that will effectively put your bad breath in the rear view mirror. Just a few pieces are all you’ll need to do the trick, and it works within minutes. You can also grind them up and make a clove tea, much the same way as the cinnamon mouth rinse detailed above. A cup of boiled water and crushed cloves that have simmered for 10 minutes or so is all you’ll need. Unless you have a truly severe case of halitosis, once a day will likely be more than enough to get the job done.

If you can’t stand using cloves, parsley can be used in much the same way. This is a good source of chlorophyll, which is also handy for freshening your breath. If you don’t mind the taste, you might also find chewing a sprig of parsley dipped in vinegar useful.

This really only scratches the surface. From fenugreek tea to lemon juice, there are a myriad of other helpful natural bad breath remedies. Best of all, they can be utilized without having to destroy the bank account. If you suffer from bad breath, give any of these home remedies a shot, and be sure to brush well! You may find your troubles are soon behind you for good.
