The new Michael Moore movie, Sicko, a devastating indictment of our for the profit of the few national health care racket, will be released June 29th. And the most wonderful aspect of this movie is the activism of Michael himself in using his documentary as a vehicle for making real policy change happen.

Tomorrow, June 12, he will be testifying at a special California legislative briefing on behalf of SB840, the single payer health care bill that was vetoed by the Governor Schwarzenegger last year, but which we can get passed with a wave of your support now.

SB 840 will put in place comprehensive, high quality health insurance for all Californians. The bill provides for:

* One health insurance plan (single payer) that covers every California resident
* High quality care and comprehensive benefits, and choice of your own personal doctor
* Affordable for individuals, families and businesses

Nearly seven million Californian lack health insurance during all or part of the year. About 70% of these people are employed but do not receive employer-based insurance. Most insured Californians are "under-insured." Under insurance means that you have health insurance but procedures or benefits are not covered or are only partially covered. Now is the time for a comprehensive system to improve care quality and make our health care system finally work for us.
